Summer Instructors 

Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science


1-week part-time positions:

  • June 17-20 Math week
  • June 24-27 Science/Robotics week
  • July 1-3 Foreign Language/Civics week
  • July 8-11 ELA week 

Time Frame: Monday thru Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.


Location: Hill College in Hillsboro, TX


Compensation Range: $400-$600 per week (based on education & experience)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Teaching Certification;
  • Two years of experience teaching high school students;
  • Direct experience providing academic support and instruction to students from multicultural and low income communities;
  • Genuinely creative and unique ideas for courses and related class projects;
  • Intrinsic motivation to help students achieve their goals.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Baccalaureate degree;
  • Must have demonstrated subject knowledge in subject area;
  • Must have experience working with high school students;
  • Must have a strong desire to serve first-generation low-income students.

Duties and Responsibilities: Instructors for ORS’ programs are responsible for coordinating and executing subject-specific lessons.


Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing high quality teaching and instruction;
  • Record keeping: attendance, grades, and project materials;
  • Establishing positive mentoring relationships with students and addressing character issues that affect their ability or will affect their ability to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.


Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs., to stand and walk for long periods of time, to endure strong heat and cold, to climb stairs and to fly on airplane. Must be able to project voice and speak publicly. Must be able to drive a vehicle, read road signs, judge distance, & spend extensive hours in front of a computer screen. Must be able to listen carefully to others on the telephone.
