Summer Student Development Assistant
Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science
1- or 6-week part-time positions:
Location: Hill College in Hillsboro, TX
Compensation Range: $12 - $15 per hour (based on education & experience)
An associate’s degree or a minimum of two years of experience in providing teaching or tutoring;
Demonstrated academic excellence (high GPA);
Direct experience working with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds;
Academic support services for students from multicultural and low income communities;
Personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s target population.
One year of college experience with other work experience or education as additional qualifiers;
Positive self-starting attitude;
Patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals;
Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
Duties and Responsibilities: Generally, SDCs are responsible for chaperoning students while on campus and field trips, providing guidance regarding college and career options, supporting program activities by setting up equipment, cleaning after events, and assisting with program development. Related activities, services, and duties include:
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs., to stand and walk for long periods of time, to endure strong heat and cold, to climb stairs and to fly on airplane. Must be able to project voice and speak publicly. Must be able to drive a vehicle, read road signs, judge distance, & spend extensive hours in front of a computer screen. Must be able to listen carefully to others on the telephone.
